On the occasion of its 30th anniversary celebration earlier this year, the Lawyers Trust Fund presented awards to Marti Jones and Lisa Colpoys in recognition of their years of leadership and service in the fight for equal justice in Illinois. Jones was honored for her exemplary leadership of the Immigration Project, which she joined in 2003. Since then the project has grown from a small, grassroots organization to a well-established immigration legal services provider assisting in thousands of cases for immigrants in downstate Illinois.
Colpoys was presented with the Esther R. Rothstein Award for her service as the executive director of Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO) since 2001. Colpoys has helped establish ILAO as a strong, innovative program that now provides internet-based legal information and self-help tools to more than one million visitors to its web site every year. Colpoys’ vision also has led ILAO to provide a critical back-end support to legal aid and pro bono lawyers through legal research and knowledge-sharing tools, and through technology to organize and streamline legal aid programs’ handling of cases.
LTF is grateful for the contributions of both and is proud to provide general operating support grants to advance the work of the Immigration Project and Illinois Legal Aid Online.
