LTF is governed by a nine-member board of directors. The Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Supreme Court of Illinois each appoint three directors to the board. Additionally, a Justice of the Supreme Court is designated by the Chief Justice to serve as Court Liaison to the board.

The board of directors meets regularly during the year, and officers are elected annually at the June meeting.
